Curtis Hixon Park

Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park is located along the Hillsborough river in downtown Tampa, Florida. It is adjacent to the Tampa Riverwalk, Florida Museum of Photographic Arts. Tampa Museum of Art, Glazer Children's Museum, and Rivergate Tower. The park overlooks the University of Tampa's Plant Hall, formerly the Tampa Bay Hotel and now the Henry B. Plant Museum. The park is in an area known as the Waterfront Arts District and includes a mister, fountains, a playground, a temporary skating area in winter, grassy areas, amphitheatre, dog park and outdoor sculptures. The park has been used as a venue for the Gasparilla Music Festival, Occupy protesters, Tampa Bay Seafood Festival, yoga meets and other events.
The park is named for Curtis Hixon, a mayor of Tampa who died while in office. The park was designed by Thomas Balsley, a New York-based landscape architect. the park includes a sloping great lawn, public boat docks, pavilion and cafe.〔(Tampa Riverwalk website )〕
